Set of 6 salad/ luncheon plates made by Macbeth Evans Glass Co. in the popular depression era pattern known as "Petalware" (1930-50). These scalloped plates measure just slightly over 8" in diameter and are the white color with translucent edges called monax...at least I think they all are.
One of the plates had gold trim at one time and has very few remnants of it on the edges so I think it still blends in well with the others. Another one of these plates is slightly different from the others...it is more opaque in color and has a completely different back than any I have seen before...with a swirly raised pattern and "Made in USA" embossed in the center (last photos). I have only ever seen plain backs on these plates before so I think this back is probably more rare. But it is still closer to white than beige so I included it in this lot of monax.
All 6 are in excellent condition (except for the spotty gold trim on the one) with no chips or cracks and very little scratching; they may not even have been used. These plates are extremely durable in spite of their thin glass, and are a lovely addition to any Petalware collection!
