Acclaimed American industrial designer, illustrator and architect, Lurelle Van Arsdale Guild (1898-1985) designed this elegant Art Deco vase (Gainsborough Model #7029) for Kensington, Inc. (New Kensington, Pennsylvania - a division of Alcoa Aluminum) in the mid-1930s.
Crafted in rich cobalt blue glass (with a quality ground bottom rim) with a removable satin aluminum base, this flared vase stands 9.25\" tall with a 6\" diameter opening.
It is in absolute MINT CONDTION for its 90-plus years of age – and shows very little (if any) use. This model is rarely found in this condition, given the vulnerability of soft aluminum to dents and scratches. It has been in my personal collection since 1986 and has been very well cared for.
Lurelle Guild held nearly 180 U.S. patents in his career and was listed in Fortune Magazine in 1934 as one of the top ten industrial designers – along with the likes of Russell Wright and Henry Dreyfus.
