Born in San Diego, California, Mark Martensen is a highly celebrated American Postwar & Contemporary painter and sculptor dedicated to preserving the legacy and "Cowboy Code" of the Old West.
Style & Evolution: Entirely self-taught early in his career, Martensen transitioned from a photorealistic pastel approach in his youth to a loose, richly layered, and expressive oil painting technique in the early 1980s. His work is deeply inspired by Western masters like Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell, and Howard Terpning.
Prestigious Collections & Museum Presence: Martensen’s works are highly sought after by fine art collectors worldwide. His pieces are held in the permanent collection of the Booth Western Art Museum (Georgia) and have been featured heavily by the Olaf Wieghorst Museum and Western Art Collector magazine.
