Marvel The A-Team Comic Book Lot #1-3 (1984) Jim Salicrup Copper Age: $26.00
Marvel's A-Team was 3 issues all published in March 1984, timed to hit stores together as a chain-store bundle. It was written by Marie Severin, Jim Salicrup, and Alan Kupperberg, with art by Severin, Jim Mooney, Joe Giella, and Kupperberg.**Premise:** A direct comics adaptation of the NBC show — in Vietnam they were an elite commando unit, court-martialed for a crime they didn't commit; they escaped custody and fled to LA, where, still hunted by the army, they became soldiers of fortune taking on impossible cases for people in trouble.**The team:** Hannibal Smith leads as tactician; "Howling Mad" Murdock is the team's unhinged pilot/technician; "Face" uses his charm for undercover work; Amy Allen was originally a reporter investigating the team who was so impressed she joined them — and B.A. Baracus, played by Mr. T, was the breakout star.**Behind the scenes:** the production was rushed — editor Jim Salicrup, who oversaw all three issues and wrote two of them, has said that because of the tight deadline and no access to actual A-Team episodes, he watched a single episode on TV and turned in both his plots to Universal for approval the very next day.It didn't continue past those three issues despite the show's popularity. Note this is distinct from the later A-Team comics (IDW's War Stories and Shotgun Wedding minis) which came out decades afterward.
