This is a handbuilt and hand-etched ceramic vase fromthe celebrated Mata Ortiz pottery tradition of northern Mexico. Signed by Diana Loya, this vessel features beautifullyexecuted sgraffito decoration,wherelayers of colored slip are carved to reveal intricate floral and hummingbirdmotifs all around the form.
The surface showssubtle variation in earth tones with intentional shading and carved detail thatcreates depth and visual richness. The piece is signed on the base and displaysexcellent craftsmanship throughout.

Mata Ortiz pottery is a modern revival ofancient Mogollon/Casas Grandes ceramicsfrom the region near Casas Grandes in Chihuahua, Mexico.
