Here is a very rare, unfinished, unglazed, bisque-fired Teco Pottery matchbox, shape #384, designed by N.L. Clark. This is the only Teco Pottery \"blank\" of any shape that I can find on the internet. It is in mint condition, but does not have its separate lid. There is no damage to the piece, so it was not a discarded \"second\". A real curiosity piece for Teco collectors.
Incise-stamped on the underside with 2 vertical TECO logo maker\'s marks, and a hand-incised number \"384\". These marks are clear, as they have not been obscured by the finishing glaze.
Bisque firing is the crucial, first, low-temperature firing of clay, creating porous, durable \"bisqueware\" that can be easily handled and glazed without falling apart. This process removes residual moisture and organic materials, transforming clay into ceramic. It is essential for strengthening, preventing warping, and ensuring proper glaze absorption.
I found two other examples of this shape, with lids, and glazed in the standard \"Teco Green\" that this early 20th century pottery is known for.

Condition: In mint, unfinished condition, with no chips, cracks, scratches or repairs Some accumulated dust on the interior, which I have not tried to clean, as I understand the piece is porous. The bottom interior has not been buffed smooth, and shows a fine line of line of extra clay, in the making. It\'s not a crack. .
