Vintage Hawaiian souvenir music box
This music box Catamaran Sailboat is a vintage Hawaiian souvenir from the 1950s or 1960s, carved from Monkey Pod wood and it plays the tune "Beyond The Reef". It was handmade in Hawaii by Lanakila Crafts. This unique music box features a catamaran design with a Tapa Cloth Sail with a Hawaiian theme.
This piece looks to be an early model due to the music box housing being made of wood, later or newer versions (1960s) had plastic music box housings.
The catamaran is approximately 5 1/2 inches wide and approximately 11 inches bow to stern. The mast with sail is approximately 14 inches tall.
The sail has a curve in it at the head. This could be flattened out by dampening the Tapa cloth laying it flat with some weights and allowing it to dry. There is also a very small tear, which could likely be repaired with the same method.
