He Served one year along side of Alvin C. York before honorable discharge in 1919.
The 82nd Infantry Division was formed in August 1917, earned the nickname "All-American" because its men came from all 48 states, and fought fiercely in France during the final months of World War I.
Formation and Nickname
Date Organized: August 25, 1917.
Location: Camp Gordon, Georgia.
The Name: Called the "All-American" division because early members represented every single state in the country, leading to the famous "AA" shoulder patch.
Major Battles in World War I
Battle of Lorraine: Saw initial frontline trench duty and sector holding in 1918.
St. Mihiel Offensive: Participated in major Allied operations in September 1918.
Meuse-Argonne Campaign: Fought through intense, grueling combat in the Argonne Forest until the November 1918 armistice.
Notable Figures and Legacy
Alvin C. York: Famous corporal in the division who earned the Medal of Honor in the Meuse-Argonne.
Demobilization: Returned to the United States and was demobilized in May 1919 at Camp Mills, New York.
