Nicolas Joseph, Count Maison (177i-1840), son of a farmer, foughtduring all the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, from Jemappes in 1792 as avolunteer, to Courtrai in 1814 as Lieutenant-General (he remained loyal toLouis XVIII during the Hundred Days in 1815). He became Military Governorof Paris and then participated in the Greek Independence War. After beingappointed Ambassador of France in Vienna, and then in Saint Petersburg, heserved as Minister of War in 1835 and 1836 before retiring.
