DESCRIPTION
Wonderful Native American ash splint hooded basket cradle. Penobscot / Wabanaki origin. Hand woven of ash splints, fastened with tiny clinched-over tacks. Red and green dyed strands, with elaborate looped ribbon decorations. Zigzag decorated interior slats in the base.
CONDITION
Overall excellent. Some small broken splints. Structurally sturdy, sound and intact. Slight expected age fading. Rich, caramel surface patina (all visible in the images).A striking and sculptural example of Eastern Woodlands basketry tradition, with outstanding display presence
