Alice W. Cling (born 1946 in Cow Springs, Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation) is one of the most influential contemporary Navajo (Diné) potters of the past few decades. She learned the craft from her mother, Rose Williams, and great-aunt Grace Barlow, both accomplished potters who emphasized traditional methods. Cling played a key role in elevating Navajo pottery from utilitarian and ceremonial objects to fine art in the 1990s, focusing on innovative forms while honoring ancestral techniques. Her work has been exhibited at prestigious venues, including the National Museum of Women in the Arts (featured in Susan Peterson\'s 1997 book Pottery by American Indian Women: The Legacy of Generations), the Vice-Presidential Mansion in Washington, D.C., and the Smithsonian Institution. In 2006, she received the Arizona Indian Living Treasures Award. Cling signs her pieces \"Alice Cling\" on the bottom and often collaborates with her four children to continue the family tradition.
