Nebraska Highway 92 route marker.
Up for sale today is this Nebraska Highway 92 sign. Made to the exact state standard used from the beginnings of the highway system around 1926, to approximately the early 1950s. The Nebraska state route marker has always featured the Conestoga wagon design as seen here, complete with pioneer man, woman, and oxen. Over the years, the wagon has gotten smaller and the route number has gotten larger for practical reasons.
In this sign designer's humble opinion, the Nebraska covered wagons—old and new—are the best route marker designs on the planet.
An original of these is very rare to find scrapped. Most of them have vanished from the back roads of Nebraska many years ago, replaced with the modern issue. So here is your chance to own an excellent display piece, without paying an arm and a leg on the collector's market.
The sign is 15 by 15 inches, as measured along the edges, and weighs 5 lb. 12 oz.
This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
