ORIGINAL NAMED U.S. ARMY MAJOR / VIETNAM VETERAN ESTATE GROUPING:
$549.00

Here’s the -ready version, tightened to stay comfortably under 5,000 characters while keeping the provenance and collector appeal. DescriptionORIGINAL NAMED U.S. ARMY MAJOR / VIETNAM VETERAN ESTATE GROUPINGOffered here is an original named military and veterans’ estate grouping belonging to Major Marlin Lynwood “Butchie” Jacobs, a career United States Army officer, retired Major, decorated Vietnam veteran, Signal Corps officer, and longtime member of veterans’ organizations. This collection was acquired together from Jacobs’ estate and has intentionally been kept together rather than broken apart. The hats, patches, publications, photographs, postcards, insignia and other material collectively preserve the history of one American serviceman.MILITARY SERVICEJacobs served a career in the United States Army, retiring as a Major. His published obituary records decorations including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, among others. His Vietnam decorations included the Vietnam Service Medal with seven campaigns, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal.SIGNAL CORPS / VIETNAM / KOREAIncluded are pieces associated with the 1st Signal Brigade, including a cap marked “1st Signal Brigade - Vietnam” and a later 1st Signal Brigade Association cap.An important framed photograph retained with the estate identifies Jacobs as the S3 officer for the 122nd Signal Battalion in South Korea, 1971-1972, directly connecting him to the unit and assignment.VFW / GERMANYThe collection also documents Jacobs’ leadership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars while in Germany. Two personalized VFW caps are embroidered:• “POST TRUSTEE 1979-80 GERMANY”
• “DEPT. ASST. CHIEF OF STAFF 1979-80 GERMANY”Both bear VFW Post 10312 insignia. Also included is a red overseas-style VFW cap embroidered “2 GERMANY.”Period veterans’ publications include a 1978 Constitution and By-Laws / Manual of Procedure, 1977 Military Order of the Cootie ritual booklet, and 1977 VFW Ritual, along with patches and additional veteran-related material.DOCUMENTED PROVENANCEThe paper material substantially strengthens the provenance of this grouping.A Budapest postcard is addressed directly to Dr. Marlin L. Jacobs in Augsburg, West Germany. Other material includes postcards from Seoul, Korea; Vienna, Austria; and other European locations, connecting Jacobs personally to locations represented throughout the collection.A Disabled American Veterans Life Member cap further documents his continued involvement in the veterans’ community after his Army career.WHY THIS COLLECTION HAS REMAINED TOGETHERIndividual military hats, patches or postcards can be relatively common when separated from their history. What makes this collection special is the relationship between the pieces. The named and dated VFW caps, Signal Brigade material, identified photograph, period publications, addressed correspondence, patches and other estate items reinforce one another, preserving a traceable story of one Army officer’s service and decades of involvement with fellow veterans. For this reason, I have intentionally not broken up the collection. It is being offered as an original named veteran estate grouping so that the history and artifacts can remain together with the next owner.A professionally prepared two-page provenance and historical summary will be included with the collection.Major Marlin Lynwood “Butchie” Jacobs
