The hats, patches, publications, photographs, postcards, insignia and other material collectively preserve the history of one American serviceman.MILITARY SERVICEJacobs served a career in the United States Army, retiring as a Major. His published obituary records decorations including the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, among others.His Vietnam decorations included the Vietnam Service Medal with seven campaigns, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal.SIGNAL CORPS / VIETNAM / KOREAIncluded are pieces associated with the 1st Signal Brigade, including a cap marked “1st Signal Brigade - Vietnam” and a later 1st Signal Brigade Association cap.An important framed photograph retained with the estate identifies Jacobs as the S3 officer for the 122nd Signal Battalion in South Korea, 1971-1972, directly connecting him to the unit and assignment.VFW / GERMANYThe collection also documents Jacobs’ leadership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars while in Germany.Two personalized VFW caps are embroidered:• “POST TRUSTEE 1979-80 GERMANY”
