The USS Constitution’s claim to fame is that it’s the world’s oldest commissioned Naval warship still afloat, launched in 1787 and currently residing in Boston, Massachusetts.
As stated on the reverse of page 1 in this original booklet, “All the stories of “Old Ironsides” are based on chapters of “We Build a Navy”, by Commander H. H. Frost, US Navy, published by US Naval Institute, Annapolis, Maryland.”
The featured excerpts share stories of the ship’s remarkable histories, with details of valiant endeavors. Gorgeous illustrations add remarkable appeal to this collector’s piece.
The booklet is in relatively good condition, with metallic-gold letters on the cover; though the cover does have some blemishes, as seen in the photos, and the three binding center staples have rusted.
This was part of an extensive collection of my grandfather, a USMC Sergeant Major. He was an avid reader and collector of military publications, and cared for his collection well. I am uncertain as to when he obtained this copy, though I do know that it remained in his office, untouched, for decades.
The mug is in excellent condition, having been obtained as part of a collection for show-and-tell, rather than for holding hot beverages.
