Vintage black-and-white press photograph showing members of the British Royal Family gathered on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on 6 July 1937, during celebrations connected with King George VI’s birthday and the Trooping of the Colour.
The original typed press caption remains with the photograph and identifies the occasion as the Royal Family watching the King’s return from the Horse Guards Parade. The caption identifies those pictured as including Princess Arthur of Connaught, Princess Elizabeth, Princess Margaret Rose, Princess Alice Countess of Athlone, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Marie Louise, Princess Helena Victoria, Queen Mary, the Duchess of Kent, Duchess of Gloucester, Lady Maud Carnegie and Lord Carnegie.
The photograph provides an especially interesting early image of the future Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret as children, only weeks after the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in May 1937.
