An ORIGINAL NICKEL PLATED CAST IRON CAP AND TENSIONING SCREW for Stanley No. A 78 aluminum duplex filletster and rabbet plane by STANLEY. This frequently missing, damaged or degraded component is was unique to the No. A 78. Apparently Stanley had to compromise with a cast iron cap owing to the strain on an aluminum cap. To make the cap consistent with the color of the plane, the cap was nickel plated, with a finish considerably more dulled than found on other Stanley planes.
