"Everything Goes Well" (万事如意) — Original Painting & Manchu Calligraphy by Two Qing Imperial Family Descendants
A one-of-a-kind collaborative artwork uniting two of the great family names of the Qing dynasty. The floral painting is by Aixinjueluo Hengxi (爱新觉罗·恒锡), a contemporary artist descended from the Qing imperial house; the inscription — "Everything Goes Well" in traditional Manchu script — is brushed by calligrapher Yehenara Yulin (叶赫那拉·煜麟). Two centuries ago these clans stood at the very center of imperial China; today their descendants' brushwork meets on one sheet of paper.
About the Calligrapher
Yehenara Yulin is a Beijing-born calligrapher of Manchu heritage (Bordered Blue Banner) and a fifth-generation grand-nephew of Empress Dowager Cixi through her natal Yehenara clan. He is a member of the China Calligraphers Association, a guest professor at Tsinghua University's Academy of Fine Arts, a National First-Class Calligrapher, and one of the few practicing masters of Manchu-script calligraphy — a writing system now known to only a small number of living artists. His work was exhibited at the "Splendor of Ethnic Culture" Manchu-Han calligraphy exhibition in Macau (December 2022), and he is a published author on Qing dynasty history.
Why Manchu script matters: Manchu was the dynastic language of China's last imperial house. Very few artists alive today can brush it authentically — each piece is both artwork and a living fragment of a nearly vanished writing tradition.
