Original Full Page Engraving Harpers Weekly by Thomas Nast--Boss Tweed 1872
Dated January 6, 1872, this Thomas Nast cartoon has the caption \"Can The Law Reach Him? The Dwarf And the Giant Thief,\" which doesn\'t show in the framing. I believe it could be reframed with the caption showing. Given its age, the print itself is in VG/EX condition, with some rough edges confined to the margins and not affecting the image. Thomas Nast\'s cartoons in Harper’s Weekly, and the efforts of a reform lawyer, Samuel J. Tildenplayed a major role in exposing his corruption.In 1873, Tweed was tried on charges of forgery and larceny and convicted and sentenced to prison, but was released in 1875, then rearrested on a civil charge, dying in prison in 1878.
