The building started as the 1919 lodge at Royal Palm State Park (later part of Everglades National Park). After the park built a new visitor center in 1952, the lodge was sold, relocated to Homestead, and operated as Jack’s Hotel and Motel. Andrew destroyed it in August 1992.
The relocation project saw it rolled over logs in a slow, painstaking town event.
