a very unique piece of WW1 ephemera.
An original shoe box that would have contained a pair of \" DOUGHBOY \" shoes. Circa 1917. These weren\'t officially issued to soldiers like the M1917 or M1918 \"Pershing\" trench boots but could be purchased and mailed to your loved one \"over there\". They were designed by Major Harold D. Corbusier. The Major was an orthopedic surgeon and an inventor who studied thousands of soldiers feet during his time in \" the Chinese Campaign, the Philippine Insurrection, the Plattsburg Camps, and on the Mexican border\". The shoes were produced by the Field Service Shoe Company in New York City.. they cost $11.50 which would be about $250-300 today so these would have been purchased by wealthy officers for the most part.
An original pair of these Doughboy field marching shoes is quite hard to find today ..
but an original box is scarce on a whole other level. I\'ve never seen one before. I imagine for the collector of original field uniforms and gear of the soldiers of WWI this would be a special item.The box measures approximately 7.5\" by 13\" by 5\".
