Pair of Vintage Indian Brass Meenakari Wall Plates — Hand-Engraved & Enamel Painted | 11\" | Mughal Floral Design | Mid-Century

A striking matched pair of vintage decorative brass wall plates in the Indian meenakari tradition. Each plate is densely hand-engraved across the entire face with an elaborate Mughal-style arabesque of swirling vines, stylized tulips, and carnation-like blossoms, with the recessed engraving filled with hand-painted enamel in deep red, white, and gold on a rich dark oxidized brass ground. The interior well takes a lobed/scalloped form that adds architectural depth to the design. Both plates have hanging hardware on the reverse, indicating they were always intended as wall art.

This style of decorative metalwork — combining chased or engraved brass with painted enamel fill — is associated with the Kashmir and Rajasthan regions of India and was widely produced for export during the mid-20th century. The craftsmanship is dense and detailed throughout.

Specs:

Quantity: 2 (matched pair)

Diameter: 11 inches each

Material: Brass with painted enamel

Reverse: Unfinished brass with hanging loop hardware

Style: Indian Mughal / Kashmiri meenakari decorative wall art

Estimated period: Mid-20th century

Condition: Good vintage condition. Enamel colors remain vivid with no major losses. Some dust accumulation in the engraved channels. Normal age-related oxidation on the reverse. No dents or structural damage. A light cleaning would brighten both considerably.
