What is Nichiren?
Nichiren Buddhism was founded in the 13th century by the priest Nichiren. It emphasizes the chanting of the mantra "Nam-myoho-renge-kyo" as a path of practice, with teachings centered on the Lotus Sutra. The sect’s head temple is Kuon-ji, located on Mount Minobu in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.
Nichiren Buddhist prayer beads (Juzu) are characterized by having two parent beads with tassels—one side has two tassels, and the other side has three. This unique shape represents the tradition of the Nichiren sect.
