With Guns Blazing the pirate ship of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla moves up the Hillsborough River into the heart of Tampa, FL, highlighting invasion day activities of this city\'s golden anniversary Gasparilla Pirate Festival, February 8. Shortly after this picture was taken the Krewe tied up their new $100,000 ship and swarmed ashore capturing the city. Police estimated the crowd jamming the Tampa streets and waterfront witnessing the spectacle at more than $600,000. The parade following the surrender of the city was more than 4 miles long and took more than 3 hours to pass any given point. Note pirates (Tampa Businessmen turned pirates for a week) in the rigging of ship and crowd on approach to drawbridge at stern of ship and along bank at left. Smoke from cannon rolls up on far side of ship and around bow. More than 250 small craft swarmed around the pirate ship as it moved in on the city, according to estimates by the Coast Guard.
