Authentic elk hide cradleboard crafted and signed \"Whitebear, \'71,\" with the original sale tag still attached. The tag identifies the piece as an \"Assiniboine Cradleboard – Elk Hide/Crow Beads,\" with the reverse noting its origin as Northern Montana/Southern Saskatchewan.
This impressive cradleboard remains in very good condition for its age and is sturdy with all original components present. One side of the canopy has a broken beaded rawhide strand; however, all of the original beads remain intact. A safety pin has been added to prevent any bead loss and can be removed or professionally repaired if desired.
The cradleboard is decorated with six elk teeth and old glass trade crow beads, showcasing traditional Plains Indian craftsmanship. It measures approximately 39 inches in length.
The Assiniboine (Nakota or Nakoda) are an Indigenous people of the Northern Great Plains. The name \"Whitebear\" may reference the White Bear First Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada. The original tag indicates a Northern Montana/Southern Saskatchewan provenance, consistent with traditional Assiniboine territory.
