The Smithsonian\'s National Museum of American History has a documented Cary Lee Bay Lotion made by the same Royal Manufacturing Co. and dates its example to 1920–1940. The Smithsonian also identifies Bay Rum as part of America\'s historic barbershop/grooming tradition.
This bottle is believed to date broadly to the 1920s–1940s, likely the 1930s. It retains the original glass, striking black/red/gold label, metal screw cap and original contents. The cap remains functional with no significant corrosion.
The truly remarkable part: the original fragrance is still present and smells exceptionally well preserved for its age. It a rich, recognizable bay rum character rather than the sour/oxidized smell often encountered in vintage fragrances.
