Wonderful antique Dazey Churn No. 20, 2-quart glass butter churn, dating to the early 20th century. The embossed glass jar is marked “DAZEY CHURN / NO. 20 / 2 QUART” and “PATENTED FEB. 14, 22,” with Dazey Churn & Mfg. Co. markings.
This example has the attractive flower-and-stem cast decoration on the metal frame and several original casting/part marks, including 20B on the frame, 20H on the crank arm, and 21G on the large gear.
The hand-crank mechanism operates well and the gears turn properly. Original wooden crank handle and wooden paddle assembly are present.
Condition: Very good antique condition overall with honest age and use. The glass jar is especially nice, with strong embossing and no cracks observed. There is minor age-related surface wear, staining and small areas of roughness around the rim, all photographed closely. The cast-metal mechanism retains its original dark aged surface with scattered light oxidation.
One wooden paddle has an old break/loose section with the original nail intact. For display purposes it does attach. Please see the detailed photographs. The removable whey strainer/screen that originally fit the opening in the lid is not present.
Approximately 12 1/2 inches tall with the crank in the down position. Total weight is approximately 4 lb. 7 oz.
This churn has been in my family for nearly 60 years. My mother purchased it at an antique store in Houston, Texas, when I was a very young child in the late 1960s.
A particularly attractive old Dazey churn with excellent display appeal, substantial original components, and a working mechanism. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.
