Antique 7-Piece Horn-Handled Flatware / Cutlery Set – Ornate Metal Mounts – Circa 1900
Beautiful and unusual group of antique flatware featuring dark, highly polished faceted handles, contrasting cream-colored spacers, triple-ring metal collars, and decorative beaded urn/acorn-style end finials.
The group includes:
3 four-tine forks in graduated sizes
3 spoons in graduated sizes
1 table knife
7 pieces total
Identification / Important Disclosures
Based on appearance, construction and comparison with period examples, I believe these are antique, likely dating approximately 1890–1920, possibly British/Sheffield or Continental European manufacture. No maker\'s marks or hallmarks have been located, however, so the maker, country of origin and exact age are unknown and not guaranteed.
The dark handle material appears consistent with natural horn based on its coloration, grain/fibrous characteristics. However, it has not been professionally tested, so natural horn is an attribution rather than a guarantee.
The cream-colored spacers appear to be an older natural or manufactured material. Their exact composition has not been identified and no claim is being made that they are ivory or bone.
The silver-colored portions appear most likely to be silver plate or another white-metal alloy. No sterling hallmarks have been found and the metal has not been tested for silver content. This set is NOT being represented as sterling silver.
