For your consideration, we are pleased to offer for sale this exceptionally rare, fully restored Circa 1933 Parker Zaner-Bloser Lucky Curve True Blue Fountain Pen, fitted with its original 14K semi-flex nib. The pen has been completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned, meticulously restored, and is now in excellent writing condition.
Note: The Zaner-Bloser Lucky Curve True Blue Button Filler was produced by the Parker Pen Company exclusively for the Zaner-Bloser Penmanship and Publishing Company of Columbus, Ohio. Unlike standard production models, these pens were manufactured to Zaner-Bloser’s proprietary specifications, most notably their distinctive hourglass-shaped barrel and extended gripping section—design elements intended to promote comfort and precision during extended handwriting practice. Surviving examples are exceedingly scarce today.
The feed and section were ultrasonically cleaned, and the original sac has been replaced with a silicone sac to help prevent any additional barrel discoloration. The gold-filled Parker clip, cap band, and 14K Lucky Curve nib have all been hand-polished to a brilliant luster. The cap, barrel, and blind cap have been cleaned, buffed, and polished to revive the richness of the True Blue celluloid while preserving its integrity. This Zaner-Bloser model measures 5 1/2" capped and 6 3/16" posted.
The cap, barrel, and blind cap remain free of cracks or structural repairs. The gold-filled clip presents beautifully with no visible wear, while the cap band retains its strong gold-filled color with only the faintest signs of handling. The cap imprint—“PARKER PEN MADE FOR THE ZANER-BLOSER CO COLUMBUS, OHIO”—is crisp and fully legible. There are no monograms or personalizations. The cap’s True Blue celluloid displays excellent, even color with no discoloration; the barrel shows medium ambering, consistent with age and typical of this material.
The button-filling mechanism has been fully restored and tested with water, filling smoothly and operating precisely as designed.
The 14K Parker Lucky Curve nib offers a delightful semi-flex writing experience, producing a double extra-fine to double broad line variation. The iridium tip measures approximately .55mm (a fine point). In writing tests, the nib lays down a line ranging from a delicate .33mm with light pressure to 1.43mm with medium to firm pressure, when measured with digital calipers. The writing sample shown in the listing was created with this exact pen using Faber-Castell Cobalt Blue ink.
This is an iconic and exceptionally rare Parker model produced specifically for The Zaner-Bloser Co., and examples of this caliber seldom appear on the market. I would grade the pen Fine to Very Fine overall, with the only deduction attributed to barrel discoloration. Fully restored and ready to write, it is a true “grail” piece for any Parker or penmanship-focused collection.
