This very large (27-in. long) Ser Mel, high-gloss paper mache Tiger sculpture was purchased for me as a kid in a shop in Ensenada, Mexico sometime in 1970-72.
Handmade, hand-painted, and clearly signed by the artist as \"Ser Mel.\" Created by the famous Ser Mel workshop founded in 1963 by Sergio Bustamante and partner Melquiades Preciado in Tonala, Jalisco, Mexico.Kept out of the sun in a non-smoking home, or carefully stored, for about 55 years!Colors and high gloss are still bright and wonderful. It\'s is a magnificent piece, and I\'ve only seen one like it (a major variation on the color and painted elements on the body) come up at sale in recent years.A rare chance to own what is very possibly a one-of-a-kind Ser Mel paper mache sculpture in a grand scale.Dimensions:
27\" Long (toe to tail)
15\" Wide (cheek to cheek)
18 1/2\" TallThe tiger\'s condition points are photographed: scuffs/dings, mainly on one ear, front paws, and tail. Hairline cracks on shoulders and ear corners are barely noticeable, with no paint loss around them. Color and texture variations are part of this hand-created piece. The vertical streak of darker color on cat\'s left paw appears to be original (it\'s under the gloss layer).Look carefully, ask questions, etc. Offers welcome! Thanks for looking!
