An unusual piece of Porsche dealership history that I have owned since the 1980s.
I was working at the Porsche dealership where I grew up when Porsche Cars North America separated from Volkswagen of America. Around that period, our dealership received a bulletin offering these Porsche 356 ceramic banks. I purchased approximately 100–200 of them and sold them through the dealership, keeping one example of each of the three colors for my own collection.
At the time, I was told that the banks had a connection to a Porsche family member and to a post-war German manufacturing effort. I have not been able to independently document that part of the history, so I am including it only as the information that accompanied these when they were offered to us.
This metallic red example has remained in my personal collection for roughly four decades.
The bank is formed in the unmistakable shape of an early Porsche 356 and features a coin slot in the top and a removable/locking coin access plate underneath.
Also included are the remains of two additional examples in blue and yellow. These broken pieces are included for historical/reference purposes and help document the different color variants originally obtained by the seller.
Over the years I have searched extensively for another example or documentation of these banks and have been unable to locate one. Because of their apparent rarity, I cannot state how many survive today.
