VINTAGE SOSAKU KOKESHI DOLL BY RENOWNED MASTER MIYASHITA HAJIME — SIGNED — NEAR MINT

A beautiful hand-carved and painted kokeshi doll by Miyashita Hajime, one of the most respected names in creative (sosaku) kokeshi art.

About the artist: Miyashita Hajime studied traditional kokeshi-making under Yamagata-Sakunami master Kobayashi Kichitaro and began his own sosaku career in 1959. Over his career he won numerous awards, including the Prime Minister\'s Award in 1977, and his work was collected by Crown Prince Naruhito and Princess Masako in 1969. His studio in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture was destroyed by fire in 2006, at which point he retired — meaning his surviving pieces are finite and increasingly sought after by collectors.
