Rare 1904 Patent Horace Pease Charcoal Sad Iron Fluter Combo Model "Multum-in-Parvo" (much in little) Evolution / Redesigned Combination marketed as a modular multi-tool set-in-one.
Manufacturer: Horace S. Pease, Cincinnati, OH. *Patent Date August 23, 1904, U.S. Patent No. 768,072.
Significance: This is a scarce, late-production variant of Pease's famous combination charcoal iron. The patent was specifically filed to upgrade the fluting attachment. Many of these later-production models were stamped only with the date, no Charcoal Iron Body: Heavy cast-iron construction with an internal fuel chamber for hot embers and an adjustable rear ventilation door.
The Flat Grid/Trivet: The cast-iron base plate has the dual purpose of a resting trivet and a pivoted end hood/hinge to lock the main iron upright or sidewise to stabilize when using the fluter.
Detachable Fluting Iron Attachments: One clamped onto the side of the iron and a rocking one on top. Both allowed the user to crimp fabric and press decorative ruffles (fluting) into Victorian collars and cuffs.
Wire Loop Pins: Pull pins to release lthe iron from standard flat-pressing to fluting.
Vintage Reference Paperwork Old Photocopy: (may not be complete as the original would have been). Bilingual section in (English & German) found rolled up inside the iron chamber. Interesting capture on the rich German-immigrant heritage of Cincinnati, Ohio where these were invented.
