Nice Antique Civil War Military Carte de Visite Photo of Identified Union LT. COLONEL in Uniform, 15th Maine Infantry
DESCRIPTION: Nice, original CIVIL WAR Carte de Visite of IDENTIFIED Union Lt. Col. shown wearing frock coat, as shown.
Has identification with it, from the album it was in as Col. Isaac Dyer, 15th Maine Infantry. This photo is also similar to one of him in the records, confirming identification.
Records show that he was commissioned into the Field & Staff of the 15th Maine on Dec. 17, 1861 as Lt. Col. Discharged Sept. 13, 1865. Promoted COLONEL of the regiment on August 26, 1862 AND BRIG. GEN. BY BREVET on March 13, 1865. He came from Skowhegan, Maine. The 15th Maine was involved in a number of battles, including the Red River Campaign, and had significant casualties.

Carte de Visites were the most popular format during the war years, and including friends and relatives, as well as rmilitary and political leaders in your CdV album was very popular. This was the best way to collect them, without having the various other methods we have today.
