Rare Comic Art Lot F.King,B.McClanahan,D.Moores,M.Roberts, Gas Alley+ Mo BAS LOA:
$11000.00

AN EXTRAORDINARY ARCHIVE OF VINTAGE AMERICAN COMIC AND CARTOON ART—SPANNING CLASSIC NEWSPAPER STRIPS, SIGNED ORIGINAL DRAWINGS, PRODUCTION-RELATED ARTWORK AND TWO BECKETT-AUTHENTICATED SIGNATURES!

Offered as one massive collector’s lot, this collection brings together approximately 10 vintage comic-art pieces associated with Frank King, Dick Moores, George Sixta, Bill McClanahan, Etta Hulme, Mike Roberts and other cartoonists.

Collection highlights

* Ella Cinders vintage original comic-strip artwork, believed to date from the 1930s. Includes a production/release stamp and handwritten production notes on the reverse.

* George Sixta RIVETS original daily comic-strip artwork, dated 4-11, rendered in ink with visible Field Enterprises copyright information.

* Frank King/Gasoline Alley full-color Sunday page or production-related piece, dated September 15, 1946. The exact production format has not been independently certified.

* Frank King-associated “No Kidding!” original cartoon drawing, depicting Walt and “Mr. Dicker,” signed “King.” Signature and attribution have not been independently authenticated.

* Dick Moores Gasoline Alley illustrated print, personally inscribed and signed: “Good luck to you, Gary, Dick Moores.” Beckett Authentication Services authenticated the signature under certificate BY050304 and classifies the item as a print.

* Bill McClanahan “The Worried Mind” football cartoon, signed by McClanahan and authenticated by Beckett Authentication Services under certificate BY050303. Beckett classifies it as a signed cartoon.

* Willie Cellar vintage original comic-strip artwork, featuring multiple hand-drawn panels and automotive humor.

* The Defender original title/cover illustration, signed and dated Mike Roberts ’67.

* Second Mike Roberts original action illustration, also signed and dated 1967, showing a costumed hero in combat.

* Etta Hulme original character sketch, inscribed “Rod Rabbit / Yegua Punchy” and signed by Hulme.

This is not a collection of ordinary modern prints. It presents a visually impressive cross-section of American cartooning and comic-strip history, including hand-drawn artwork, inked production boards, vintage presentation material and authenticated signatures.

The Frank King/Gasoline Alley material represents the collection’s most significant potential. Genuine Frank King originals have an established collector following: two 1939 Gasoline Alley dailies sold together for $1,553.50, while exceptional authenticated hand-colored Sunday originals have reached five figures. Exact comparisons depend heavily upon production format, date, condition and authentication. Heritage’s 1939 daily-strip result and documented Frank King sale results demonstrate that difference.

Condition

These pieces display substantial natural aging consistent with vintage production and archival artwork. Conditions vary and may include toning, staining, foxing, surface soiling, creases, edge and corner wear, pinholes, handling marks, corrections, paste-ups, production markings and discoloration.

No restoration is represented. The photographs form an important part of the description. Please inspect every image carefully. Items are being offered together and sold as shown.

Only the Dick Moores and Bill McClanahan signatures are represented as Beckett-authenticated. No authentication claim is made for the remaining signatures, artist attributions or exact production status unless expressly stated.

A SERIOUS ARCHIVE FOR THE COMIC-ART COLLECTOR, NEWSPAPER-HISTORY ENTHUSIAST, GALLERY, DEALER OR INSTITUTION SEEKING A DIVERSE COLLECTION WITH MULTIPLE DISPLAY-WORTHY PIECES.
