Rare Heteromorph Ammonite Fossil from Hokkaido, Japan

This is a distinctive heteromorph ammonite fossil specimen collected in Hokkaido, Japan.

The unusual coiled and three-dimensional form gives this specimen a very impressive appearance. It has been extensively prepared and cleaned so that the unusual shape of the ammonite can be clearly appreciated.

Hokkaido is internationally known for its rich Cretaceous ammonite localities, and unusual heteromorph ammonites from Japan are especially attractive to fossil collectors.

The previous owner collected and prepared fossils mainly from areas including Yubari, Haboro, Mukawa/Hobetsu and Obira in Hokkaido.

This specimen makes an excellent display piece for a fossil collection, study room, office or natural history interior.
