Rare WWI Underwood Press Photo American Soldiers London Red Cross Flags Framed For Sale

Rare antique World War I-era press photograph titled “Convalescent American Heroes in London!”

This powerful historical image shows wounded and recovering American soldiers being taken on a sightseeing tour through London by the American Red Cross before returning home. The soldiers are gathered on and around early London double-decker buses decorated with numerous American flags and large Red Cross banners.

The reverse retains the original printed caption explaining the scene:

“The American Red Cross is seen taking convalescent soldiers from London hospitals on a sightseeing tour of London. Thousands of these boys enjoy these outings daily, while convalescing from wounds before being sent home.”

This is an exceptionally striking piece of WWI history. The combination of wounded American servicemen, early London buses, patriotic American flags, and Red Cross imagery gives it outstanding display appeal. Condition:

Antique condition with visible age-related wear, toning, discoloration, creasing, edge tears, small losses, and surface wear. Some cracking and damage are visible around the outer edges of the photograph. The frame also shows light cosmetic wear.

The photograph is currently framed behind glass. It has not been removed from the frame, so the back of the actual photograph has not been inspected. The original printed caption sheet is attached to the back of the frame.
