SEAL OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK FROM THE WEST SIDE ELEVATED HIGHWAY For Sale

In 1985 I purchased one of 600 West Side Highway decorative Seals of the city of New York at the City Bookstore for $150. (A truck fell through the highway and forced the highway to be to be demolished). The heavy cast iron seal is18 inches in diameter 2\" thick and weighs 80lbs! I meticulously removed 50 years of paint and rust and hung it on my brick wall. As an artist and sculptor, I\'m familiar with making molds and castings. After 38 years on my wall and much interest in the magnificent object I decided to reproduce it in a more manageable weight. Using Hydrocal, a rock hard alabaster based sculptural material, I have produced here a 15lb perfect casting of the original. There were many designs across centuries of the Seal of New York City. This design was done by the famous sculptor Paul Manship. A few notes about this object: SIGILLUM CIVITATIS NOVIEBORACI means the City of New York in Latin. Dexter, a sailor holds a Plummet an old fashioned depth finder. Sinister, an Indian of Manhattan holds a bow and both stand on a laurel branch. The shield shows a windmill, from our Dutch heritage, the beavers and the flour barrels represent the commerce that made New York wealthy, powerful and the center of trade to the world. The Eagle, perched on a hemisphere, preceded by many years the use as a symbol of the United States. As a proud New Yorker (I was born in Manhattan) I think this stunning object will be a symbol of pride and an attractive conversation piece on many a New Yorkers\' wall.(I\'VE NOW ADDED A CASTING IN WHITE!Orion H28
