STUNNING ANTIQUE SILK CRAZY QUILT ~ THE MOST EXQUISITE EMBROIDERY ~ DATED 1901 For Sale

I hardly know where to begin to describe this complicated album crazy quilt, dated 1901 and almost entirely made of silk. The patches are arranged alternating heavily embroidered and mostlysigned squares with a more traditional crazy quilt patch that is covered with densemulti-colored embroidery outlining all the jewel toned patches of silks.The personalized patches include the most extraordinary French knotted cow from FATHER. Condition is problematic with silk shattering in nearly all the squares, ranging from just about nothing to the most signficant damage as shown in "Aunt Eliza" and in the "Christmas Wreath" background. Almost every square has some red and black striped fabric that I think was used as a backing and all surrounding unembroidered silk completely deteriorated. This is definitely a quilt that needs loving restoration and/or stabilization. The backing is appears pristine and I find no stains or holes anywhere, the same with the edging which is perfect condition. Because of the fragility of this textile, it is a final sale.
