History:
Rare and highly collectible piece of Kansas City brewing history from the legendary George Muehlebach Brewing Company. Founded in 1868 by Swiss immigrant George Muehlebach, the brewery became one of the most recognized and successful breweries in Missouri history. Known for its famous “Beer Castle” brewery at 18th & Main Streets in Kansas City, Muehlebach Brewing helped shape the city’s brewing, hospitality, and baseball legacy for generations.
The company survived Prohibition by producing soft drinks and near-beer products before roaring back to success in the late 1930s and 1940s, eventually becoming one of the Midwest’s largest breweries. In 1956 the company was sold to Schlitz, ending an iconic era of independent Kansas City brewing history.
The Muehlebach name is also deeply connected to the historic Muehlebach Hotel, once one of Kansas City’s premier luxury hotels and famous for hosting President Harry S. Truman. The family additionally helped support Kansas City baseball and built the original Muehlebach Field.
