For your consideration is a 1962 (4/4/62) Schwinn Corvette 5 speed. This bike is original and retains mostly original components (see pix for details).
This bike is rather unique, and rare as it was made for only 18 months and some unsubstantiated sources claim only 150ish were ever made (I have no definitive proof of this, but could not find info stating otherwise).
This bike rides and operates as it should, and great care was taken to ensure its safe and proper operation. The bike includes beautiful fenders that are at least a 9+/10, they have very minimal imperfections and shine nicely. The teardrop reflector is present, however the “chrome” is age faded. The brakes are Oem and have had new inner cables installed and Oem Schwinn “rubber” cable tips installed. The rear derailleur is a Huret alviet (1st gen) with smooth pulley wheels. The shifter is a Huret shifter and appears to be original. It has a starburst badge and original Mayweg front rack. The rear rack is a beautiful 4 reflector “loop variant “ rack. The seat is a Schwinn badged Mesinger S saddle with crash rail. The bike has large cap bow pedals, original crank , chainring, and chain. The bars, stem, headset, levers and grips are original (a cleaner set of grips will also be included in the sale). The light is an original style, but not the light that would have come Oem. It looks the part, but it is not original.
The rims are center stamped S7 and are original with a script front hub and an Oem rear hub, spoke protector and freewheel. The tires are period correct Westwind White walls. They are useable, but not perfect.
The frame itself is in great condition as it relates to the paint and finish. However there is a section on the down tube at the headset where the paint does show some imperfections. It’s not bad, and can be seen in the pix. Otherwise it’s a 8.5+/10. The top of the chainguard has some areas of paint flaking. As does the face (you know the old paint over chrome dilemma).
