Set 2 Antique Victorian PRESSED IRIDESCENT GLASS Lamp Shades 1870s WOMAN\'S HEAD

VERY RARE Early Victorian Pressed Glass

Size 5.25\" high with a 3.75\" diameter across bottom and a 2.25\" diameter across tops.

Features frosted glass with an iridescent sheen on the INSIDE of the shades- beautiful. The iridescent colors are soft pinks, peaches, aquas, and yellows in the light. These colors SHOW THROUGH the glass from the outside when lit. It is a soft and subtle effect. The outside of the glass is a frosted satin effect.

Outside of shades has an incredible pressed glass pattern of 3 woman\'s heads [cameo style] evenly spaced around the shade. All are identical. The head is a gorgeous profile of a lady with a pulled back bun hairdo.

In between the cameo heads are pressed glass patterning which looks like draped cloth, quite dimensional and \'feelable\', with a striped edging.

These are VERY EARLY Victorian glass pieces and may very well be pre-1870 due to the small bubbles visible in the glass, a typical feature of early glass. This gives them a wonderful unique quality and they do not look \'mass produced\' or machine made, because they were not. These tiny glass bubbles can even be seen in some of the cameo faces.

These are meant to hang DOWNWARDS from downward facing sconce or chandelier bulbs. The larger opening is at the bottom of the shade. If they are placed the other way around, facing upwards, the lady\'s head is upside down.

Excellent antique condition, without damage or wear of any kind. One shade has a tiny V shaped nick on the inside of the bottom rim which does NOT go through the entire rim edge and so is not feelable from the outside - extremely minor- see last pic. No scratches, rub marks, chips, no damage to iridescent finish. Some miniscule, tiny fleabites on the inner [not outer] rims at top, normal for age and use. Barely feelable [slightly rough] if you run your finger along inner edges.

Very unique, would make gorgeous statement shades on any lamp. Would be wonderful on a double light sconce, or 2 separate sconces.

A fabulous set. I\'ve been a collector for many years and have never seen anything like these.

These are quite possibly French or English due to age and fine quality

Would look great in any setting

Like works of art with a lamp turned off or on.
