From my huge vintage barware collection, a set of four classic Stieff Pewter Jefferson Cups, model P50—a wonderfully simple American design with a genuinely interesting history.These low, rounded cups are Stieff’s pewter reproductions of the famous Jefferson Cup associated with Thomas Jefferson and Monticello. In 1810, Jefferson had silver inherited from his friend and teacher George Wythe remade into eight smaller drinking cups. The beautifully simple rounded form became known as the Jefferson Cup and has been reproduced for generations.Each of these is marked on the underside:STIEFF PEWTER

Jefferson Cupalong with the ATC shield mark associated with the authorized Monticello reproduction.The cups have the wonderfully understated design that makes Jefferson Cups so versatile—they work beautifully as traditional cordial or spirits cups but also make handsome little vessels for a bar, desk or display.Approximately 2½–2⅝” tall and 3⅛” diameter based on the documented P50 dimensions. All four are in vintage used condition with scratches, scuffs and surface wear consistent with age and use. They retain a nice pewter patina and have not been aggressively polished.
