Set/8 Vintage Kirsten Pipe Co Corn Holders Silver-Tone Duralumin in Velvet Case
Wonderful and unusual vintage Kirsten Pipe Company set of 8 corn-on-the-cob holders, complete with its original fitted presentation case.The Kirsten Pipe Company was founded in Seattle, Washington, in 1936 by Professor Frederick K. Kirsten, an aeronautical engineering professor at the University of Washington. Kirsten applied his engineering background to the development of his innovative smoking pipes, which became particularly known for their use of Duralumin, a lightweight aluminum alloy associated with aircraft construction.
During the Mid-Century period, Kirsten also produced a small assortment of household and lifestyle accessories using the company’s metalworking expertise. These distinctive corn holders are an unusual surviving example and are considerably less commonly encountered than Kirsten’s famous smoking pipes.
This complete set includes eight matching holders, each featuring a substantial faceted silver-tone handle with a two-prong fork end. The streamlined geometric shape has a wonderful Art Deco / Mid-Century Modern appearance.
The holders are made from Duralumin / aluminum alloy, consistent with materials Kirsten used in its manufacturing.
The original cream presentation case is a major part of this set’s appeal. It features:

Excellent vintage condition overall for its age, especially considering that all 8 matching holders and the original presentation case remain together.The metal holders retain an attractive bright silver-tone appearance, with varying amounts of age-related surface oxidation, spotting, patina and light wear visible on some pieces. There are no broken or missing fork tips.
The original presentation case remains structurally intact and displays very nicely. It shows expected age-related discoloration, surface marks and wear to the exterior, along with some wear and discoloration to the satin and velvet interior. The original Kirsten branding remains clear and legible.
