Original Spanish-American War veteran archive relating to F.W. Behrens of the 52nd Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Group includes several period photographs of a uniformed soldier, a damaged but identified group photograph dated February 15, 1899 with handwritten reference to “Santiago survivors,” a 1939 letter from United Spanish War Veterans E.H. Liscum Camp No. 7 in Oakland, California confirming Behrens’ service, a pocket roster for the 52nd Iowa Infantry, newspaper clipping concerning Spanish-American War veterans, manuscript correspondence, and additional ephemera.
The 1939 veterans letter records F.W. Behrens as having enlisted April 30, 1898 in Company I, 52nd Iowa Volunteer Infantry and discharged October 30, 1898. Several photographs appear to depict the same soldier in Spanish-American War era uniform. One photo bears the imprint of J.A. Delanoy, Des Moines, Iowa.

Mixed condition throughout archive. Group photograph has heavy edge wear, losses, creasing, staining, and mounting damage. Individual photographs show age toning, wear, staining, handling marks, and corner wear. Letter folded as mailed with creases and light wear. Roster booklet and paper items show expected age-related wear, folds, tears, and toning. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition details.
