Theodore Roosevelt 1912 Campaign - pin pinback button
In the 1912 United States presidential election, former President Theodore Roosevelt made a historic and dramatic return to national politics. Disillusioned with his successor, William Howard Taft, whom he believed had abandoned progressive reforms, Roosevelt challenged Taft for the Republican nomination. Despite winning most of the new primary contests, Roosevelt was blocked by party bosses at the Republican National Convention, where Taft secured the nomination.
Roosevelt then broke away and founded the Progressive Party, popularly known as the Bull Moose Party, declaring himself "fit as a bull moose". His campaign was built on a platform of "New Nationalism," advocating for social insurance, labor protections, women's suffrage, and strong federal regulation of business. Roosevelt's run was notable for violating the unwritten "no third term" rule, as he had already served nearly two terms as president.
