Vintage World War II-era U.S. Navy mess spoon, plainly stamped “U.S.N.” on the handle.
This spoon comes directly from my father’s belongings. He entered the U.S. Navy in early 1943 and this was his Navy spoon, providing family provenance dating it to his WWII-era service.
Heavy, simple utilitarian construction typical of military mess flatware, with scratches, finish wear, discoloration and other signs of genuine period use. No manufacturer or silver-content mark has been identified, so I am not making any claim regarding sterling/silverplate content.
A wonderful piece of WWII U.S. Navy memorabilia with direct veteran provenance, rather than a later reproduction or decorative military piece.
