+ Very Rare Green Spade Insert on stem. This is only one I believe I have ever seen and I’ve owned close to 1,000. Possibly 2, I can’t recall.
This is an excellent pipe for any Dr. Grabow collector. I bought this one back in 2021 and it’s been carefully stored ever since. It has been a long time since I did a deep research dive into this pipe but I believe this is a Linkman’s right around the time they were starting up Dr. Grabow as a brand. So I think it’s just prior to pipes getting the Grabow stamping.
Getting down to the last handful of Dr. Grabow pipes from my collection that was well over 500 at one point… this pipe is very rare. I’ve never seen another in fact. It is not stamped Dr. Grabow or Linkman’s but it is 100% one of theirs. The Green color spade is the only one I’ve seen on a Dr. Grabow ever accept I may have had one on one other Ringmaster, but I can’t recall fully. It’s also placed on top of the stem as opposed to the standard side of later models and it appears to be very well placed. More so than typical spades. It’s hard for me to explain but when you’ve seen so many….
As spades are a big part of Grabows, this beautifully colored green spade is so cool and looks great on this straight somewhat Petite Apple, typical for the years it was made.
I’m guessing this is a 1930-1940’s Dr. Grabow pre Sparta, NC when they were in their early Chicago factory. There’s no shape just like this one post 1940’s. It also has a 4 digit shape number as well.
I have had some gorgeous Dr. Grabow pipes with exceptional grain, special editions and the like but this one is rare and in good condition too. I love the Apple bowl and overall lines of the pipe. It uses a push-in stem as opposed to stinger as this was a time they did that.
I always tried to collect all the lines and series and the Ringmaster was one of the hardest. After 7 years of almost daily searching, I only ever found 3 I think and this is the last.
I fully restored it a couple years ago. The vulcanite stem is a deep black with no dings, marks or oxidation. The stem fits excellently into the mortise and looks good with the metal band too.

The briar is in good shape with some original fills as expected from the brand back then. It’s been cleaned, gently buffed and waxed with block carnauba as well. The pipe is ready to smoke.
After this guy, I think I have a beautiful rare Churchwarden and a couple other Grabows I’m not sure yet if I’ll let go.

All pipes are carefully inspected, cleaned, gently buffed, waxed with Carnauba and the stems are hand polished and oiled as needed. For a decade, I’ve put all I have into these pipes, packaging and more. I really enjoy it and my fellow hobbyists.
