An Original US Army ink idd "Register of the Army of the United States" listing every officer serving in the Regular Army in1869, by regiment, and with an index. A very useful resource for research this 7.5 x 5" Register is complete with 235 pages, and is ink idd on the front "Register of Theodore J. Eckerson, Bvt Major, AQM. Before the Civil War Eckerson served as a private with the US Infantry and Artillery. During the War he became an officer in the Ordnance Department, from 1861 to 1885 and is buried in the Lone Fir Cemetery, Portland Oregon. The Register was once bound, and has edge binding still intact , with outer covers gone. Age stains, edge wear, Overall VG and sturdy, for quick reference.with almost all the officers of the Regular Army from Arthur McArthur and Emory Upton to George Thomas and Montgomery Meigs The officers are listed with the highest rank they hold in the Regular Army, for example Georg Armstrong Custer is listed as Lt Colonel, 7th Cvalry. Two of his sons served on the Frontier after the War in the US Cavalry- - Lt Philip Eckerson commanded companies fighting the Apaches in Arizona and the Nez Pierce , but was dismissed for repeated drunkeness, and died at Hays Kansas at age 35. His brother Theodore Henry , a USMA graduate had a long career incl Indian Scout Commander, served in Texas, Fort Hays , KS & the Ute War, Garland, Colorado, and served in the Chinese Opium War. After retirement he returned to active duty during WWI.
