Offered is an original 1949 dated U.S. NavyPilot\'s Life Raft Survival Ration, preserved in outstanding, pristinecondition. Although manufactured after World War II, this ration is identicalin design and configuration to those issued during WWII, making it anexcellent example of the survival equipment carried by Naval Aviators duringthe war and throughout the immediate postwar years.
This ration was an important component of the U.S.Navy M-592 Para Pad Backpack Survival Kit, a compact emergencysurvival pack designed for pilots and aircrew forced to bail out over water orremote locations. Similar survival rations were also included in a variety ofmilitary emergency and life raft survival kits, providing essential nourishmentuntil rescue could be effected.
The can remains complete with its originalopening key, a feature that is often missing on surviving examples.The printed top clearly identifies the contents and operating information,adding to its originality and display appeal.
