A striking, atmospheric scene from the Russian folk tale «Деревянный орёл» (The Wooden Eagle), illustrated by celebrated Soviet artist Н. Кочергин (N. Kochergin) — part of the same 1956 series as the «Сивка-Бурка» and «По щучьему веленью» cards. The postcard depicts the young царевич (tsarevich), dressed in gold and red, gripping tightly to the neck of his intricately carved wooden mechanical eagle as it soars through a violent thunderstorm, lightning streaking across the dark sky, with three startled magpies scattering below at the sight of the strange flying contraption.

The reverse gives the title «ДЕРЕВЯННЫЙ ОРЁЛ» with a printed excerpt: «Летит Царевич на деревянном орле. Просторно, вольно кругом. В ушах ветер свистит, под ногами облака проносятся» (\"The Tsarevich flies on his wooden eagle. All around is open and free. The wind whistles in his ears, clouds rush by beneath his feet\").
